LED Lights: What Do You Really Know About Them?

Category : Allergies , Diseases , News , Sleep

The world has gravitated toward new technology of using LED lights and has banned the traditional incandescent lights. I remember at the time of their fazing out of the ‘regular’ light bulbs, I went out and purchased all I could buy at the stores and stocked for my ‘future’. At the time, I didn’t trust this new technology. I still have my stock for my whole house and have heard others telling me that their entire house is in LED lights. These lights are just too bright for my eyes, others have stated the same. I even got rid of all of my overhead fluorescent lighting in my kitchen (mercury dangers). Well, we now come to the real concerns of the effects of this type of lighting on our eye and general health.

LEDs are a type of solid-state lighting that uses semiconductors to convert electricity into light. They don’t require a filament that will burn out or break. They are made to be longer lasting. However, the same technology that has made them so efficient also causes them to emit a high level of blue light. This is the same blue light that is emitted from computer screens, cell phones, and TV screens. So, you are now becoming overwhelmed with blue light in your environment. It is creating an excess, that your body’s health cannot comprehend.

The high energy, short-wavelength effect of blue light’s character means it will penetrate right into the retina, the inner lining of the eye. The human eye is not able to effectively block blue light, causing digital eye strain, difficulty focusing, dry irritated eyes, headaches, neck and back pain. Long term exposure problems include, age-related macular degeneration, and the damage to the retinal cells over time. Furthermore, excessive blue light exposure especially at night, can disrupt the body’s circadian rhythm, leading to sleep disturbances. This in turn can lead to deeper implications for overall health, including risks of heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. Those of you who have younger children and even grandchildren, please educate if possible.

So, the accumulation of your exposure to these lights in workplace, schools, and then computers, cell phones; may I go on? Then, to have the same harmful environment at your home can be very disrupted to say the least. It is best for your mood and health as your body relax and prepares for the sleep quality that is healthful. Blue light suppresses melatonin levels that regulates sleep and making it more difficult to fall asleep, thus reducing the quality of your sleep. Avoid screens, cell phones and overhead lighting 1-2 hours before bed, reduced lighting and blue light exposure will help maintain natural melatonin production. I use battery operated candles throughout my entire house in the evening hours to help my body know it’s time to sleep. Protecting my body is priority. This is the time to pass on this important information  to family and friends.

What Is Hidden Behind The Natural Flavorings On Food Labels

Category : Allergies , Arthritis , Diseases , MSG , News , Nitrites

The “natural flavor” label is a deceptive term that food manufactures often hide behind. Whether derived from animal or plant sources, these flavors are highly processed in labs with preservatives and solvents. The FDA regulations allow dozens of hidden chemical additives which are grouped under this single term, thus, the primary dangers alert to hidden allergens, chemical exposure, and engineered cravings.

Natural flavors are meant to enhance flavor, but will not necessarily add to the nutritional aspect of the food or beverage. These flavorings are very common in most processed foods and beverages. You may have also noticed that most ingredient labels show that the food can entail both natural and artificial flavors. In the case of a natural flavor, the original source has to be plant or animal. On the other hand, the original source of an artificial flavor is always a synthetic chemical. Companies also use it on heavily processed products falloff GMO’s, high fructose corn syrup and preservatives. This is purely a marketing tactic.

Importantly, all flavors contain chemicals, whether they are natural or artificial. Factually, every known substance on this planet, including water, consists of chemicals. The big problem is that the public is deceived on the safety data on natural flavors. Also, the combining of these chemicals in their processing can create adverse reactions to those who have food allergies or follow special diets. This is why it is imperative to investigate what substances a natural flavoring contains.

The lack of transparency behind the label of natural flavors for consumer health and safety concerns:
Hidden Allergens: The FDA only labels the “major 8 allergens” (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, soy, and peanuts). Any other sensitivities you have can trigger an abrupt allergic reaction.
Chemical Exposure: Common ones include: Propylene Glycol, BHA, Diacetyl, MSG Derivatives, Cochineal, and Polysorbate 80. Most of these are additives, colorings and preservatives. Research notes these are carcinogens. Check the link below for other names for MSG.

Engineered ravings: These flavorings are formulated to trigger dopamine in the brain, making them very addictive and highly palatable, which leads to overeating and weight gain.
Nutritional Deception: The word “natural” tricks people into thinking the food item is nutritious. In reality, these flavors just make it a “wanna-be-food.” It isn’t the real thing! There is zero nutrition and loads of sugar and fat.

To avoid the hidden ingredients, minimize ultra-processed, packaged foods…best to rely on the short, recognizable ingredient lists. Check the resources like Environmental Working Group (EWG) Food Scores to evaluate the transparency of different brands, and check directly with the manufactures about specific flavor sources. This is so important for the protection of our health.
